Sports Coaching - Leeds Trinity University

Are you passionate about helping people realise their sporting potential? Sports Coaching will help you develop the skills to work as an effective sports coach across a range of contexts. We'll give you the theoretical foundations of coaching practice across all sports, which you can apply to your sport of choice. You'll study coaching models and styles, as well as psychosocial aspects such as learning and leadership. We'll teach you the professional codes to which coaches must adhere, exploring the ethical and moral responsibilities of the coach. Understanding the principles of performance analysis is crucial, so you'll learn how to identify performance indicators and coaching strategies across a variety of sports. You'll examine the physiological components of performance, learning about skeletal and muscular anatomy and function. You'll complete two professional work placements and you'll have the option to work with business experts in your final year to develop your own viable business plan. Plus you'll get experience of using the latest high performance sport technology, such as GPS tracking and 3D motion tracking, developing the sector-specific skills you'll need for a graduate role. At the end of your first year you can continue with Sports Coaching or transfer to Physical Education or Physical Education and Sports Coaching. Alongside your degree, you'll be encouraged and supported to complete nationally recognised coaching qualifications in a variety of sports. **Placement opportunities** We are one of only a few UK universities to build professional work placements into every degree. You'll complete two professional work placements, which will give you the chance to graduate with up to three months' professional work experience without having to take a sandwich year out. You'll complete a five-week professional work placement in your first year and a six-week professional work placement in your second year. Our students typically complete placements at professional sports clubs, community schemes or grassroots-level clubs. You could also work in primary or secondary schools. **Graduate opportunities** The broad subject base and practical application of this course will make you attractive to a range of employers. You'll be well-prepared for a career in coaching, but you'll also develop transferable organisational and interpersonal skills which will prepare you for many managerial positions. You could also consider postgraduate study, with students using this degree as stepping stone to teacher training.
