Physical Education and Sports Coaching - Leeds Trinity University

Physical Education will prepare you for postgraduate study in teacher training, which will qualify you to become a primary or secondary teacher. You'll be prepared for sports coaching for children or athletes and roles in the fitness industry, physical activity and health promotion, sport development or event management. You could also follow in the footsteps of some of our previous graduates and start your own business. You'll practice in a range of settings, from primary and secondary physical education to community coaching. You'll develop an appreciation of how the disciplines of physical education and sports coaching complement each other, studying a combination of practical and theoretical modules in pedagogy, sports science, research methods, sports policy, psychology, sociology and philosophy of sport. Our vocational approach means you'll learn by doing, applying theory to a range of practical activities such as games, athletics, outdoor adventure activities, gymnastics and dance. At the end of your first year you can continue with Physical Education and Sports Coaching or transfer to Physical Education or Sports Coaching. Thanks to our fantastic employer links, you'll have the opportunity to work with schools and professional sports clubs and we'll encourage you to volunteer or work in physical education and sports coaching alongside your studies. You'll also have the opportunity to undertake coaching awards in a wide range of sports. The flexible nature of the degree means you'll have the chance to adapt your knowledge, skills and experiences to any age group. You can also specialise in the areas that interest you the most, choosing from modules that include strength and conditioning, physical activity, sport development or enterprise. What's more, you can even gain additional coaching qualifications alongside your degree. **Placement opportunities** We are one of only a few UK universities to build professional work placements into every degree. You'll complete two professional work placements, which will give you the chance to graduate with up to three months' professional work experience without having to take a sandwich year out. You could complete your placements in the UK or abroad, and we also have partnerships with international charities. These have given our students the chance to deliver sporting opportunities in Rwanda, Cameroon, Uganda and Kenya. **Graduate opportunities** Many of our graduates successfully go on to teacher training, becoming PE teachers and primary teachers, as well as working with professional sports clubs. You'll also be prepared for a career in performance or community coaching, as well as related careers in personal training, strength and conditioning, health and wellbeing and sports development.
