Music with Humanities foundation year - Keele University

At Keele University, we’re different. Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, we have a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. We’re proud to be ‘University of the Year for Student Experience’ in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017, in addition to having been ranked No.1 in the National Student Survey 2014-2016. This is because it’s more than green and lovely, it’s a place of research and academic excellence too. Studying The Humanities Foundation Year will allow for an exploration and deeper understanding of various subject disciplines, which can then be focused when progressing onto an honours degree at Keele. This course provides preparation for the academic skills required for degree level study, delivering the opportunity to develop the questioning and analytical skills required for progression in your chosen humanities subject. After you have completed your Humanities Foundation Year, you could progress on to the Music programme. Studying Music at Keele will immerse you within a hub of world-class musicologists, composers and performers, including specialists in film and TV music, contemporary classical music, world music and pop. You’ll have opportunities to perform with orchestras, choirs and bands, and to attend free concerts and workshops by world-leading musicians. You’ll also have 24/7 access to our purpose-built practice rooms, recording and project studios, and to an extensive music library. You will focus on the creation, performance, meaning and uses of music from a diversity of styles, periods and traditions. Alongside opportunities to perform and compose your own music, and to do module-based work placements in the local community, you can investigate topics including music’s history, aesthetics, theory and social impact. You can also combine areas of study to create an individual degree, that reflects your musical interests and passions. For example, studying components of Keele’s Music Technology programme, will enable you to work on sound design, music production, software development and audio-visuals.
