A multimillion-pound centre for sports and health is to open in 2011 in the heart of Glasgow, leading the run-up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The centre is part of a £300 million campus investment by the University of Strathclyde, and will offer research, teaching and recreational facilities, including a swimming pool, squash courts and treatment rooms. Principal Andrew Hamnett said it would not only play a pivotal role in training sports development professionals and teachers, but also support research into the impact of physical activity on health and rehabilitation.
